Join other parents in our community for discussion, reflection, and connection, as we explore what it means to be a (Jewish) parent in 2022.
Let's pause with old and new friends to ask the deep questions about being a parent, and to explore what Judaism might offer us to on our own terms. This group is primarily intended for parents of Kindergarten through 3rd grade students.
Parents who are married/partnered are warmly invited to participate as a couple. While each session stands alone, you are encouraged to come to as many as possible.
Fall Series: What Parents Give Children
Session 1 (Tuesday, October 25): The Obligations of Parents
What do we owe to our children? We can't do all the things that need to be done, so can we prioritize (or begin to prioritize) what is most fundamental?
Session 2 (Wednesday, November 9): On Being Our Kids' Teachers
If the role of the parent is to teach? What gets in the way of us achieving this vision?
Session 3 (Tuesday, December 13): Reconstituting Our Parents' Reality
What feelings, things, and people do we want our home to include? How might we continue or depart from the ways our parents configured their homes? How does the first Jewish family, Avram and Sarai, model for us what Jewish home-building should look like?
Spring Series: What Children Give Parents
Session 1 (Wednesday, February 8): The Hardest Job Ever: On Rebellious Children
Becoming a parent often exposes self-doubt and insecurities. What hidden lessons might be waiting for us in the project of parenting?
Session 2 (Tuesday, March 14): From the Mouths of Babes
How do we allow our children to teach us while maintaining appropriate boundaries?
Session 3 (Wednesday, April 19): On Shalom Bayit
How we can we create peaceful homes, without suppressing the creative and dynamic tension that gives our life depth and resonance?
