Worship

Shabbat

Regular Shabbat services are held Saturday mornings at 9:30 am. They generally last about 2 hours (dependent on the time of year, Torah portion, if there is a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, etc.) We use Siddur Sim Shalom which features Hebrew prayers, English translation, and some transliteration. Our services are spirited and participatory, including a sermon or Torah discussion (or D'var Torah) which brings this ancient text to modern life.

Women and men have equal rights and responsibilities within our egalitarian Conservative synagogue. Congregants are invited to share in the chanting of the Torah and Haftarah on Shabbat (contact Cantor Sklar if interested).

Mourner's Kaddish

There are times during our service when those in mourning are called to say the Mourner’s Kaddish. Generally, names of loved ones who have passed away are read aloud before the final Mourner's Kaddish at the end of the service (p. 184). If you are observing yahrzeit (the anniversary of a loved one’s passing), we invite you to stand with mourners and those observing a yahrzeit. Kaddish is only said when a Minyan is present (see below).

Sunday Morning Minyan (it takes 10)

It takes 10 Jewish adults (over the age of 13) to make a minyan and allow mourners to say kaddish.  KTI has a weekly minyan on Sunday mornings at 8:30 am.  This is generally a 30-minute service and a wonderful mitzvah to support the KTI community and kick off the week! It is a casual service (attire is definitely dressed down--jeans or shorts are acceptable).

Services on other days for those needing a minyan to say kaddish can be arranged upon request by contacting the KTI office. Please contact the office two weeks before the yahrzeit so arrangements can be made.

Sponsor a Kiddush

Have you had a recent simcha– the birth of a baby, an anniversary, a birthday, an upcoming wedding?  Maybe you want to honor a congregant or family? Perhaps you are observing a special memorial or yahrzeit? A wonderful way to commemorate all these events is to sponsor a Kiddush for those gathered in prayer. Please contact the office for more information.
