Why KTI's Religious School?

KTI Religious School: Registration Open Now

Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel’s Religious School serves families and students from Port Chester, Rye Brook, Rye, Harrison, Purchase, White Plains, Greenwich, and surrounding communities. As your neighborhood synagogue, we’re conveniently located, so getting your child the best Jewish education in the area—and making sure they’re prepared for Bar or Bat Mitzvah—isn’t a schlep.

Hebrew School? Sunday School? Religious School?

Whatever you call it, selecting the right Jewish education for your child can be a difficult choice. We’ve been there. And you might even be considering not doing it at all. We get that, too.

Why Choose KTI's Religious School Instead of other Westchester or Fairfield Synagogues?

Anyone who’s been to a Bar or Bat Mitzvah at KTI can see how well prepared our religious school students are for their special day. But, that’s just the start. KTI's Religious School—considered one of the best in the area and led by our Cantor/Religious School Director Alexis Sklar—prepares our students, not only for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah day but also to cherish our religion and heritage for the rest of their lives.

We teach them how to live life Jewish-ly.

What does "Live life Jewishly" mean?

It means that we teach our students the values that come from our Jewish heritage, through our traditions, scholarship, and collective experience and prepare them to make decisions, approach problems, and deal with issues through a Jewish lens—ideas, thoughts, and values that will sustain them through the challenges of their teen years and help them navigate what it means to be a Jew in the 21st century.

Two Days a Week. Jewish Lessons to Last a Lifetime

At KTI, all classes from grades 3-6 meet 2 days a week—on par with our neighboring synagogues. Grade 7 meets once a week, with a monthly second day. Grades K-2 meet once a week.

What can I expect from your Religious School curriculum?

By the end of 3rd grade, your child will know how to read Hebrew and conduct part of the Saturday morning service on their own, something they will do in a year-end celebration and
throughout the rest of their Religious School experience—making their B'nai Mitzvah preparation year that much easier. You can find information about our core curriculum here.

Are you too religious for me?

KTI is a Conservative Synagogue. But we are also pragmatic. We get that sometimes baseball practice is happening at the same time as Religious School. Would we rather your child comes to class? Sure. But we get it. We’re parents in this community, too. At the same time, we also believe that the amount you put in is the amount you’ll get out, and your children will value what you value. To us, Judaism is a gift—a gift that increases in value the more you use it.
